In the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, there will be a micro coffee roastery where students will be immersed in the process of making artisanal coffee beverages from bean to cup. Roasting, grinding, tamping, pouring, and serving will be just a few of the hands-on learning activities for student training. Hotel guests and local patrons who visit the roastery will taste the quality of Auburn-roasted beans in every cup of handcrafted coffee.
Duties:
- Ability to thoughtfully engage with all customers visiting the Thrive Coffee shop about the concept and partnership with Auburn University
- Perform mise en place for daily service based on business levels expected
- Oversee our guests experience following Thrive Here@Auburn powered by Thrive Farmers and IHP's standards of service.
- Monitor and observe guests café experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests.
- Always maintain a neat and clean work environment
- Be available to perform lateral service as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the cafe as directed by the Director of Coffee or immediate supervisor.
- Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea.
- Selling coffee and tea blends and brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items, and educating customers about brewing methods.
- Learning about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
- Taking inventory and replenishing items based on business levels in display cases or behind the café.
Working Conditions:
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time, consecutively.
- Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver multiple plates of food & carry bus tubs frequently weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Team members must have a flexible work schedule and ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a coffee shop or a coffee roaster as a barista preferred
- Possess basic math skills and can handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
- Positive Attitude and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation in a coffee environment
